This is a cyanotype of a large Berkel weighing machine.
The original negative was taken with a Gandolfi 5 x 7 inch camera. The
negative was then sandwiched with fresh hand-coated quality waterpaper in
a 19th Century mahogany printing frame while being exposed to bright UV
light. My lightsource consists of a bank of UV lights in a mechanically
ventilated, light-tight box that I designed and built myself. Using an
artificial light source such as this frees the practitioner of old
processes from the whims and tyrannies of nature!
The actual print is much more detailed than the scan because of the small
file size involved in webpage creation.
